The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) has teamed with Dallas Art Fair and NorthPark Center to present the off-site exhibition, Talk of the Town: A Dallas Museum of Art Pop-Up Exhibition, on view March 22 - April 30, 2023.

Curated by Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck, the Museum’s Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, to coincide with the 15th edition of the Dallas Art Fair, the show celebrates and explores the diversity of womanhood through a wide range of artistic perspectives.

Talk of the Town assembles recent works by Sarah Awad, Sarah Cain, Johnny Floyd, Danielle Mckinney, Arcmanoro Niles, Maja Ruznic, Keer Tanchak, Evita Tezeno, and Summer WheatAll of the works were acquired by the DMA in the last six years through the Dallas Art Fair Foundation Acquisition Program. The exhibition takes its name from an arresting portrait by Danielle Mckinney, which was acquired as part of the fifth annual acquisition program in 2021.

Launched in 2016 by the Dallas Art Fair Foundation, the program has nurtured the growth and celebration of the Dallas arts scene by providing annual funds for the DMA to purchase contemporary works for the Museum’s permanent collection directly from the fair. The program has raised nearly one million dollars in the seven years since its inception. These acquired works, including the ones to be featured in Talk of the Town, demonstrate the DMA’s commitment to addressing the historical exclusion of female artists and perspectives and to supporting artists at varying stages of their careers.

“The artworks in this exhibition showcase and celebrate the diverse experiences of womanhood through the gender identities on both the side of the artist and their subjects. With playful takes on portraiture, the artists upturn traditional notions of femininity and invite the viewer to join the conversation of what it means to be a woman today,”

Dr. Brodbeck.

“The Dallas Museum of Art could not be more thrilled to meet our community where they are to experience the power of art and its ability to bring us together,” said the Dallas Museum of Art Eugene McDermott Director Dr. Agustín Arteaga. “We are grateful for this tremendous partnership that allows us to celebrate women and the access our community has to contemporary art through our valued relationship with the Dallas Art Fair and NorthPark Center.”

“We were so pleased by the acquisition of these works by the DMA, which helped elevate these emerging artists,” said Kelly Cornell, Director of the Dallas Art Fair“Now, we’re so excited for Talk of the Town to further the visibility of their work. NorthPark Center is the perfect venue for this exhibition, due to its unparalleled art collection and public accessibility.”

Talk of the Town is organized by the Dallas Museum of Art, NorthPark Center, and the Dallas Art Fair. The Dallas Museum of Art is supported, in part, by the generosity of DMA Members and donors, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the citizens of Dallas through the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.
