Untitled Miami Beach: Amir H. Fallah, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Summer Wheat, and Wendy White

For the year’s edition of UNTITLED Miami Beach, Shulamit Nazarian is pleased to present new and recent works by Los Angeles-based artist Amir H. Fallah, Houston-based artist Trenton Doyle Hancock, and New York-based artists Summer Wheat and Wendy White.

 

Amir H. Fallah will exhibit a new series of paintings titled Atlas, alongside recent portraits and botanical paintings. Atlas is comprised of three large-format circular paintings that serve as deconstructed self-portraits. Combining disparate references from art history, design, and children’s book illustrations, these symbols have informed Fallah’s work and life as an immigrant who often feels inspired by a hybrid of cultures. These new paintings will be featured in the artist’s solo exhibition at MOCA Tuscon in January 2020.

 

Trenton Doyle Hancock will present paintings and works on paper that span over 15 years. Recently obtained from the artist’s personal archive, these works have informed major bodies of work or serve as self portraits that point to important personal moments in the artist’s life. This presentation will be in conjunction with a current solo exhibition by the artist at Locust Projects, Miami.

 

Summer Wheat will present new works that continue her examination of art history, invisible labor, and the representation of women. These paintings serve as an introduction to the themes that will be further explored in her solo exhibition at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in February 2020.

 

New and recent works by Wendy White will be exhibited from her ongoing Jeans series, in addition to collaged prints, mixed-media paintings and dibond sculptures featuring White’s iconic rainbows and rain clouds. With these works, White continues to question Americana lexicons by amalgamating vintage advertisements, art historical gestures, and consumerist logos found throughout the United States.

 

Utilizing denim – a quintessentially American fabric associated with labor and a sense of western self-reliance – the artist will also be taking over the lounge at UNTITLED with her signature Jofas. Alongside neoprene prints, suspended sculptures, and blinking neons, White’s solo, site-specific installation Free Beer Tomorrow performs like an empty promise: just out of reach yet full of endless potential.
